In the main text we include the augmentation dot to the a1 crotchet added in GE. Its absence is most probably a mistake, since there is no reason for this a1 not to go smoothly to b1.

In bar 71 and 73, in FE the e quaver was printed under g1 in the R.H., as if it were supposed to be a semiquaver with the missing flag. A version with a semiquaver would be possible, but a non-simultaneous entry of the middle voices (e and c1) defining the new chord is highly unlikely. Therefore, we assume that it is the rhythmic value of the notes that is correct, and not their position. In GE only the mistake in bar 71 was corrected, while in EE in both places the synchronisation of the parts of both hands is inaccurate, with the difference in bar 71 being marginal, as a result of which the notation seems correct, whereas in bar 73 the shift of the e quaver is distinct enough for it to be reproduced as it was done in FE (in the version "transcript").

The FE notation is contradictory – the ties to the e2-e3 crotchet, even if they were to be considered slurs, interfere with the rest on the last quaver. It can be pointing to an unfinished correction from the version with a repeated octave (our alternative suggestion) to a tied octave (our main text), or the other way round. According to us, the first option is more likely – a tied octave rhythmically corresponds with the d2-d3 octave in bar 78, with Chopin changing the chord accompanying the tied melodic note in both cases. Therefore, this is the version we provide in the main text; it was also introduced by EE.

In FE (→GE) the e2-e3 octave is a crotchet, followed by a quaver rest. This is contradictory to the ties, prolonging it to the next bar. The mistake was corrected in EE.

In FE (→GE) the stem of the bottom voice quaver is led as far as to g2. This illogical notation could have resulted from the misleading [A] notation – Chopin probably initially wrote the a1-g2 seventh using one-part writing and did not delete the fragment of the stem combining both notes after having added the bottom voice stem and flag. In the main text we include the undoubtedly accurate correction introduced by EE.

The bass f at the beginning of each of these bars is an erroneous dotted minim in FE. In GE only the mistake in bar 84 was corrected, while in EE – only in bar 83.
