b. 19-24

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor
..
In CLI the crotchets in the L.H. in bars 19 and 21-24 are undoubtedly the original version – in FEcor Chopin replaced the majority of them with quavers with rests (except for the 2nd half of bar 24). The later version (apart from the last chord in bar 22) is also included in Ap, which may suggest Chopin's hesitation. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Chopin's hesitations , Accompaniment changes , Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 19-24
|
composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor
..
In Ap the rhythmic values of subsequent two-note chords of the lower voice in the R.H. create in those bars (as well as in subsequent repetitions) an alternating short-long scheme (semiquaver-crotchet). Sometimes the resounding length contrast is additionally underlined with accents. In the main text we give the homogenous, as far as the sound is concerned, version of FE (→GE,EE). The last chords in bars 19, 21 and 23 are discussed separately due to differences in the number of sounds, and in bars 20 and 22 – due to their relation to the accents. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Chopin's hesitations , Accompaniment changes |

b. 20-22

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

In Ap the last chords in the R.H. in bars 20 and 22 are crotchets, which creates a kind of rhythmic and articulation accent. The similarity with the original rhythmic value of the chord in bar 22 is coincidental, as in the original version there are no differing values in the bar. In the version for publication Chopin significantly reduced the number of this kind of differences in the part of the L.H. (not to mention the lower voice of the R.H.). category imprint: Differences between sources |

It is hard to determine Chopin's motivation at the time when he was writing the e-e1 octave in Ap as a quaver. In the version for printing he returned to the original value of a crotchet. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Chopin's hesitations |
