b. 43-46

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

No fingering in A (→GEFE,IE)

Fingering in EE

..

In the main text we omit the inauthentic fingering added by EE. See also bars 51-53, 55-58 and 60 and 62.

b. 43-48

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

No marks in A

5 wedges in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

4 wedges in EE

..

The wedges present in GE (→FE,IE) over the last octaves in bars 43-45 and 47-48 must have resulted from a misunderstanding – the endings of the stems, sticking out from the beam in A, were confused with wedges. The stems are particularly visible – and misleading – in bars 47-48, yet such thickened endings of vertical lines can easily be found in A in other situations as well, where their insignificant nature is obvious. Taking into account the above, in the main text we do not include these wedges.
EE repeated only 4 out of 5 wedges present in GE – the one in bar 45 was left out.

b. 43-50

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

In A the L.H. part is written in shorthand – only top octave notes and the segue con 8 - - - indication. In the editions it was written in full.

b. 43-46

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

No slurs in A

3 slurs in GE (→FE,IE)

2 slurs in EE

..

In bars 43-44 and 46 the L.H. quaver groups are not encompassed with slurs. As the vast majority of analogous motifs, both before (bar 16 and 42) and after (bars 171-174, 207-208, 241 and 243), is provided with slurs in A, we add similar slurs in these places too. The slurs were also added by GE (→FE,EE,IE), while in bar 43 EE overlooked the slur. The range of the slurs can be questionable – see the note on bars 45-48. In accordance with the analysis carried out in those bars, we adopt here four-quaver slurs as well.

b. 43-55

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

In this entire fragment, in the R.H. part led mainly in octaves, accidentals before both notes are present only in 3 of them – d1-d2 in bar 44 and 50 and e1-e2 in bar 52. Among the remaining octaves that require the use of accidentals, the majority of them feature an accidental only before the top note, while only three before the bottom note – b1 in bars 53-54 and d2 in bar 54. All necessary accidentals were added by GE (→FE,EE,IE).
