In the course of editorial work done for the mUltimate Chopin system, Chopin sources are electronically archived. The system makes them available to users together with commentaries which show the role and importance of a particular source in the transmission of Chopin’s output. Digitalization is performed for all sources containing important authentic elements not found elsewhere, and for all sources that have played a role in shaping the editorial and performance traditions of Chopin’s works.
As the digitalization work progresses, a data bank is created that offers descriptions of Chopin sources and the characteristics of the musical material itself. Thanks to the system of tags one is able to find in particular pieces and their sources the recurring or unique features of the work, such as mannerisms and errors of copyists and first editors, typical errors made by Chopin himself, and his characteristic composition devices (melodic phrases, harmonic progressions, types of pedalling, etc.).
