b. 184-185

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

No fingering in A (→GEFE,IE)

Fingering in EE1

Fingering in EE2

..

In the main text we do not include any of the two versions of the inauthentic fingering provided in EE1 and EE2. The EE1 version could have resulted from a mistake, since the fingering of similar motifs with a repeated note points to the reviser's clear preference for swapping fingers in such situations.

b. 184

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

No slur in sources

Slur suggested by the editors

..

In the main text in bars 182-184 we suggest a slur written by Chopin in the respective place in the exposition (bars 4-6). The slurs of the sources end in bar 183.

b. 184

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

In A there is a  to a in the 2nd chord. The unnecessarily repeated accidental (perhaps written by Chopin earlier than the  at the beginning of the bar) was omitted already by GE (→FE,EE,IE).

b. 186

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

In A one can see an erased B note at the beginning of the bar, which means that this L.H. part detail being different in the exposition and the recapitulation – C-c octave in bar 8, but a single B1 note in bar 186 – was not due to distraction. Chopin most probably took into account the different form of the R.H. chord, which could have also been corrected, e.g. by adding one of the bottom notes, d or f.

b. 186

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt I

..

In A there are no accidentals to the 2nd and 3rd chord in the bar, which is simplification of notation, typical for this manuscript. All 3 omitted flats – d1, d2 and d3 – were added already by GE (→FE,EE,IE).
